How do you handle confrontations?

When I was younger, it mostly involved stabbing things with sharp objects or throwing a metric assload of magick at whatever it was that bothered me. Time, and experience, have taught me that not all problems react well to having holes punched in them, or their bones melted. Plus, some things out there don't even have a skeleton to speak of. I just wish some of the younger mages here would learn that before they get themselves killed.

Now, I like to think I'm much more calm, and mature. Able to deal with things in a more level-headed fashion, with a more seasoned veteran's way of looking at things.

But I still carry my knife.

Siubhan bani Verbena
Fandom: Mage: The Ascension RPG
Words: 116

What Makes You Laugh?

Goddess knows I'm not laughing much these days. I've got a cabal of Mages out. . .well, somewhere, doing who knows what or having it done to them. My daughter's incredibly moody, more than usual for a teenager, there's a rumor going around that the Midnight Circus is coming back into town, and the local werewolf tribe are being twitchy, grumpy fuckers. All in all, not a good month, really.

Still. . .

My wife, Laura, when she tries to sing, and fails miserably. The kids in the Chantry, when they're being particularly enjoyable smartasses. My husband, Michael, when he talks like Donald Duck. Myself, when everyone looks at me like I know what the hell I'm doing. MST3K.

What is your favorite guilty indulgence?

Oh, well, I'd have to say. . . well. . . um. . . . *coughs, and turns beet red* I'm sort-of, what you might call a. . . "Trekkie". *coughs again, looking really embarrassed* I mean, I could quote you chapter and verse on why the Gar- my family insist most technology is evil, and there's quite a lot of Mages that consider anything that shows tech in a good light is just Technocracy propaganda, and they're probably right, but. . . .

Well, I just like it. It's geeky, and silly, most of the time, but I like the idea of living in a world where everyone gets along. Sometimes you just need a little fantasy in your life, you know?

I may have also gone to a few conventions when I was younger. Maybe. But there's no proof. :D

How did you lose your virginity?

So, yeah. My first time. . . Well, I suppose initially, it's like one of those cliched first times: Girl meets Boy, Boy just wants to get into Girl's pants, so Boy lies and says 'I love you', and Girl believes it, and gives it up like a hooker on military payday.

The specifics, well, that's not so cliched. Boy, one Aaron Dunham, was not just your standard High School jock, although I didn't know that until afterwards. And Girl, that would be me, was not your standard dorky nerd. Aaron used me to get back at my brother. He fucked me, then rubbed Seth's face in the fact that his little sister liked to fuck monsters.

Yeah, that's right. Aaron wasn't entirely human, something that nobody knew about until it was too late. For any of us. He fucked me, then bragged about it, and then his skin split, and he became. . .well, to this day, I don't have a clear memory of it. Only the fact that I wanted to retch when I saw what he really looked like.

As for me not being your standard nerd, well, it's funny how often a Mage's Awakening coincides with sexual awakening. After we'd finished, my head had started pounding. No pain, not really, just pressure, and a sense of power welling up inside me. And when Aaron sneered at me, I knew exactly what to do to him, and the 'friends' he'd let in on the joke.

The cops assumed it was some sort of industrial accident.

I think I've babbled on long enough. . . .

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Goddess, no.

Love isn't easy, and it isn't handed to you on a silver platter. Like just about everything else in this world, you've got to fight for it, otherwise it's not worth it.

I dunno. You'd think that living in a world where I go toe-to-toe with bloodthirsty monsters, and alternate realities popping up on my doorstep would allow me to believe in something silly like love at first sight. But I just can't. I've never experienced it. I'm more likely to think that some other Mage is fucking with your head, and your emotions than I am to think that you just fell in love instantly with someone.

I have a husband, and a wife. I love both of them with every last breath in my body, but it wasn't instantaneous. Things that are worth it, things that are meant to last, shouldn't be.

Siubhan bani Verbena
Fandom: Mage: The Ascension RPG
Word Count: 146

Well. . .

I've been assured by the resident VA that the line for this is secure. Wouldn't do to spill all our secrets to the blackhats and mirrorshades, would it?

You folks have no idea the commotion you've caused. Seriously. You've got every single mage in the Chantry buzzing about you all. Jeremy theorizes. . .well, I can't follow half of what he said, but what it boils down to is that the very intangibleness of the 'Net is what's allowing for what's happening. At least, I think that's what he said.

Me? Well, the name's Siubhan. It's not my birth name, but one that I've chosen for myself. I'm a Mage, a willworker, a witch, if you like. I can shape reality with the power of my mind alone, or so goes the theory. It's a strange world, mine is. Filled with Mages, and vampires, werewolves, fairies, ghosts, and some creepy crawlies that don't have any names.

And from where I come from, almost every single one of you is fiction. Seriously. Not the actors, obviously, but just about everyone else.

I'm one of three leaders of the Claire De Lune chantry, a gathering place, and sometime school for other Mages. (The younger Mages laugh and call it "Hogwarts" which annoys me to no end. It's taken on a somewhat more interesting light considering who some of the members of this community are. ) I run it along with my husband and wife. We're a fairly new school as far as it goes, but we're doing okay. No fatalities yet, which is always a plus, to my way of thinking. :)

So, um, hi. Nice to meet all of you.

Siubhan bani Verbena
Mage: The Ascension

Siubhan's one of my NPC's in the Mage rpg that I run. She decided she wanted a journal too, so who was I to tell her no? :)
